Precast concrete products are today used in a wide range of ways. Concrete is a very versatile product and the when constructed using precast technology the options are endless.
Traditional mesh fabrication is labour intensive and can also increase the risk of accidents on site. There is a lot of wasted steel mesh and there has to be a large storage area where the steel mesh and rebar has to be stored.
Where steel fibres are used there is the risk of the fibres protruding at the surface of the concrete which could cause injury. Steel is much heavier than polypropylene and so there are the effects of manual handling practices which have to be considered.
Some elements when they are removed from the moulds, transported and positioned on site can be damaged and so expensive repairs have to be performed to bring the precast elements back to their required standards.
